Rollerball
Review:
This movie was so hyped up it has to be good right? Wrong. It was basically professional
wresting with rollerblades and some motorcycles. Anyway, Rollerball is about to best friends,
Jonathan Cross (Chris Klein) and Marcus Ridley (LL Cool J), who are both daredevils always
looking for a rush. Marcus first joins the Rollerball Circuit and eventually talks Jonathan
into joining with him. Within months Jonathan is the biggest name in the sport. And because
of this the ratings start going through the roof. That doesnt last because they soon start to drop. To prevent
this, the owner of Rollerball starts to mess with the game to increase ratings. To do this he
causes accidents. For example, someone getting it in the head with the solid metal ball.
Eventually the players figure out what's going on and try to escape from the game. But only
Jonathan and Marcus have a good chance of leaving so the others stay behind. From here the
next 15 to 20 minutes is taking place in the middle of nowhere and it's night time so what
does the director do? He uses night vision. Anyway, right before Jonathan and Marcus reach
the city line they kill Marcus and Jonathan doesn't risk the chance and surrenders. Jonathan
then causes total chaos when he tries to stop the owner by kicking the games ass and killing
everyone around him. Overall Rollerball had some great action scenes. But the rules of the
game were hard to follow sometimes. And just about everyone had a number tattooed under their
eye and was never explained why. My theory is that it is their version of a jearsy number.
And Paul Haymond (ECW/WWF announcer) announces all the games so that's pretty cool.
But lastly, did I mention the night vision?? I give Rollerball a total of 3 stars for the above reasons.
