Peacher's Sound Bytes
5/5/03
Hey everyone. I’ve been to two concerts since my last article. I saw Third Eye Blind and Jurassic 5. First, let me say that Third Eye Blind’s new album is going to be great. It comes out May 13th so pick it up. They previewed a lot of their new songs and they were very good. Second, I have always liked Jurassic 5 but my respect for them as a rap group has gone through the roof. They were absolutely unbelievable. If you ever get a chance to see a J5 show, do not pass it up, it is a great experience…
Rap/techno/party music…
Joe Buddens - Pump it Up
Along with 50 Cent, Joe Buddens has been all over mix tapes for the past year and a half. I have mentioned him before on remixes and such but this song really shows his skills. There is a remix with Jay-z that is also quality but I feel the original version with just Buddens is better.
Mr. Cheeks w/ Mario Winans - Crush on You
I am not a Mr. Cheeks fan for the most part. However, I can’t stop listening to this song for some reason. You may have seen the video for this song if you watch direct effect. Mario Winans vocal additions to this song really put it over the top.
Sean Paul - Hot Sexy Punkie
This is more of a reggae song than anything else but its great. I’m hooked on this guy right now. He just has that addicting reggae rap sound. I highly recommend downloading this song as well as most of his album because it is very good.
DJ Green Lantern w/ G-Unit - 8 more miles
This song is off the new Shady Records Mix taped mixed by the evil genius himself, Mr. DJ. Green Lantern. The name of the mix tape is invasion and if you can pick it up or download it, then do it cause it’s the best mix tape I’ve heard in a while.
Song of the Week to Download:
Panjabi MC w/ Jay-Z - Beware of the boys
Wow, this is the most peculiar song I’ve ever heard but its beat is just ridiculous. Panjabi MC has this weird Indian sound to him and you can also hear the night rider beat in the background of this song. Make sure you get the version with Jay-Z because it really makes this song.
Rock…
Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds - Stay or Leave
This is the new song that Dave and Tim played on their acoustic tour. For that reason you can only download live versions of the song. Unfortunately they did not play this song when I saw them but I wish they had. In my opinion it is the best song, Dave has written since he was writing for the lilywhite sessions (i.e. Bartender, Grey Street, JTR).
Cold - Stupid Girl
This is the first single of Cold’s new album “Year of the Spider”. I thought Cold’s last album was great and I am a big fan of this song. River from Weezer helped out with the writing of a song on this album and if I remember correctly, I believe it was this song.
The Starting Line - Leaving
This band is signed to drive-thru records. If you are a fan of New Found Glory, you will probably like this band. They are a great band and this is one of the songs of their new EP.
NoFx - Mediocore
NoFx has been making punk music for close to 20 years now and they are still one of the best at it. This song is off their new EP and they have a new album coming out soon also. They put on one of best live shows I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, they won’t be on warped this year but you can still see Fat Mike with Me First and the Gimme Gimme’s this year.
Song of the Week to Download:
Jason Mraz - Tonight , Not Again
This guy has become a lot bigger lately. He’s opened up for the likes of David Gray and he recently opened for DMB on their winter tour. Right now, he’s most known around the DMB fan circuit for an appearance by Dave himself during Jason Mraz’s show on a side stage while DMB was at the Gorge this summer. Jason has a lot of great songs but this one is one of my favorites.
